In my doctoral work I applied Freud’s notions of the sinister and anguish, and Laplanche’s notions of unconscious and original seduction to understand readers’ reactions to fantasy literary texts. 2007 | Co-director for the Encounter of Ibero-American writers in the era of globalization, in which 8 contemporary writers talked about their work in relationship to violence, cinema and publishing. University of Wisconsin- Madison, March 7-10, 2007. As co-director of this event I was in charge of soliciting grants for $21,000 that made the event possible, as well as leading a group of fellow graduate students during the planning and execution of the event.

2020 - 2023 | Board Member since 2020 to present of MIWISCONSIN (https://miwisconsin.com/), a local nonprofit organization dedicated to Spanish-language news for the community. Regular contributor to programs addressing critical community issues, such as mental health (see, for example: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?ref=watch_permalink&v=905603630101037).
2020 | Translator from English to Spanish information about Covid-19 for the community. Project by CHESS (Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies. University of Wisconsin- Madison.
2009-2012 | Volunteer with a community radio program on 89.9 W.O.R.T Radio, called En Nuestro Patio, that provides news and education for the Hispanic community in Madison, WI.
1998-2001 | Worked with displaced populations in Bogota, Colombia. I accompanied a group of 15 families victims of countryside violence in their process of adjusting to city life. This included the establishment of a food program for children as well as two small businesses working with the NGO Fe y Alegria.
1993-1994 | Through Javeriana University I participated in a group that gave psychological treatment to children that had been victims of family abuse.
1991-1992 | Through Javeriana University I participated in a group that worked with autistic children from low-income families.
